Rick Majerus just found out how easy it was. All he had to do was show up at a Hillary Clinton rally and say "I'm for pro-choice," and declare himself in favor of embryonic stem cell research (which, it turns out, is no longer necessary). For this bit of brave counter-cultural truth-speaking, ESPN.com's Pat Forde wrote a 800+ word piece on Majerus' courage. Even ESPN...
I don't remember them defending the courage of Kurt Warner or Jeff Suppan when both athletes spoke up against a pro-embryonic stem cell amendment in Missouri in 2006.
In fact, at the time Jeff Pearlman wrote
But when push comes to shove, no population in society is less qualified to guide voters than pro athletes. Not doctors, not lawyers, not garbagemen, dogcatchers, dishwashers, librarians, sportswriters -- no one.
Majerus has spent his life immersed in x's and o's, not public policy. All the same criticisms should apply. But since he has the "right" positions, they don't.
