My personal favorite, of course, is Sports Illustrated's 1985 story "The Curious Case of Sidd Finch," about a Tibetan monk who threw the ball 168 miles per hour, and had signed a contract with the New York Mets. Written by George Plimpton, the story is one of Sports Illustrated's most famous of all time.
